Sunset at Lake Taupo, NZ

The internet (via Google and other popular search engines) is replete with images of the sun setting in the Great Lake of Taupo at the North Island of New Zealand. The photo below is yet another one of those images. But the unique thing about this photo is that it is one taken by me on September 3, 2011 at around 5:30 PM at the corner of Lake Terrace and Tui Street. I took the photo with an old trusty point and shoot Canon Ixus digital camera which has been with me for many of my travels in recent years.

Sunset at Lake Taupo

LAKE TAUPO is a lake situated in the North Island of New Zealand. With a surface area of 616 square kilometres (238 sq mi), it is the largest lake by surface area in New Zealand, and the second largest freshwater lake by surface area in geopolitical Oceania after Lake Murray (Papua New Guinea).

Lake Taupo has a perimeter of approximately 193 kilometres, a deepest point of 186 metres. It is drained by the Waikato River (New Zealand's longest river), while its main tributaries are the Waitahanui River, the Tongariro River, and the Tauranga Taupo River. It is a noted trout fishery with stocks of introduced brown trout and rainbow trout. (FROM WIKIPEDIA)

  2. Thanks Cat.

Nope, it's really not the fishing season yet but some fishing is allowed though. We just walked around, (did a nice long brisk morning walk) and sampled the cuisine in the area. The lakeside road called The Terrace is like our Roxas Blvd (only it's cleaner - without the vendors - and significantly less crowded).

  5. I'd say they are not very condiment-conscious. But they have some weird/exotic creations such as chocolate pizza!

  6. Will be posting photos when I get back to home-base. Right now, my internet access is intermittent at best (and depende lang kung may free wifi sa hotel, which usually is the case anyway, medyo weak lang ang signal).

  7. you know am wondernig, wala ba silang kagaya dito na SmartBro or Globe, tapos palitan lang ng SIM for NZ service (of course dpat ma unlock yata ang modem..hehe)...

  8. Actually meron din silang parang Smartbro or Globe Tattoo. Those with their iPads or Samsung Galaxy are able to surf anywhere. Part yata ng subscription nila. Pero di na ako nag-avail. Kasi nga meron namang mga free wifi hotspots (either sa hotel, coffee shops, or restaurants). Besides, I'm driving so di rin puedeng on the go.
