Sky on Fire: Sunset in Rotorua*




*From Wikipedia - Rotorua is a major destination for both domestic and international tourists; the tourism industry is by far the largest industry in the district. The city is known for its geothermal activity, and features geysers – notably the Pohutu Geyser at Whakarewarewa – and hot mud pools. This thermal activity is sourced to the Rotorua caldera, on which the city lies.

We arrived at Rotorua, about an hour and a half drive from Taupo, at around 4:30 PM. As we were looking around to book a place to stay for the night I saw this beautiful golden sunset at the distance.

Using my camera's zoom function, I shot this:

And using the maximum zoom capability of my point and shoot camera, the sunset looked like this photo below:

    Dito sobra ang protection nila sa animals. They generated more money from donations to send back Happy Feet, a penguin who somehow lost his way to Antartica and found itself along the coasts of New Zealand, than for a similar request for donations for the famine-stricken sub-saharan country of Somalia.

    By the way, dito ang news content is about 10 minutes news (mostly local politics), 30 minutes sports (big deal sa kanila ang Rugby, which I hate), 30 minutes weather, and 20 minutes environment, animals and the like.

    well, they got their priorities straight in terms of just giving 10 minutes local politics...IMHO...hehehe...

    think na lang habang naka-30 minutes sports news about rugby, cue mo na yan mag-rest ...(the way I do for commercials)...

    I think more time should be given nga to environment dito rin..pero in our part of the world di pa naman sya bumped to the top 5 eh...

    I just happened to look up and saw this magnificent view quite by accident. We were really busy looking for a place to check-in (which is really not my kind of interest). This is one of those times I am glad that I have a very short attention span, hehehehe...

Personal Sa Akin Ang Bagyo (I Take Typhoons Personally)

This is an image of typhoon tracks from 1980 to 2005 or a period of 25 years (photo from wikimedia). NOTE: Please click on the image to view large format (available only for 30 days and counting...) . If you are familiar with the southeast asian geography, you probably know that right in the densest part of the storm tracks is where the Philippine archipelago is (indistinguishable and literally obliterated from view due to the blue lines that mark the tracts of possibly hundreds of typhoons during the two and a half decade time-frame). And if you're familiar as well with Philippine geography, you'll probably know that right smack in the middle of that storm corridor is the Bicol Region and as such, it is probably the most typhoon-battered/ravaged region in the entire Philippine archipelago.
