ChilLine* Sunrise
An invitation from a Hongkong-based niece who was in Manila for a visit led me and my wife to a short unscheduled overnight stay in a vacation house in Tagaytay City - that city from which ridges one can see the famous and sometimes violent beauty of Taal Volcano. The house itself was nothing short of amazing, from an architectural viewpoint.
A view of the house from the hilly garden showing the small swimming pool. This is actually the view from the back of the house.
A view of the living room which center-piece is a salvaged tree ravaged by termites, with a virtually unimpeded view of Taal lake
The "grand" staircase with colorful stones and great masonry work. Also loved the natural handrail made of preserved tree branches.
A view of Taal lake and volcano just outside the living room area.
The view from the house is also breath-taking. The early morning stake-out for the sunrise was a very rewarding one and below are some of the still photos I took.
I did take a video of the actual sunrise and have posted it here in the video section - http://chitoirigo.multiply.com/video/item/109/Tagaytay_Sunrise.
The sun rises from the hilly eastern horizon
The sun's rays break through the foliage
A view of Taal framed by trees
A misty morning
I call this a "sun burst"

*ChilLine is a vacation house located on a cliff at the rim of the caldera that surrounds the famous Taal Volcano. You can visit it's website at http://www.chilline.com/tagaytay.html
Below are a few more photos I took .
Tagaytay is very beautiful.
ReplyDeleteEqually beautiful is the architecture of the house.
Dream house...tulo laway ko...beautiful modern architecture.
ReplyDeletei wish i could say i could afford this.
Yes Mar, Tagaytay is indeed one of the most beautiful places in the Philippines given that it approximates the cool Baguio climate (but not as far), and that it has the unique feature of a beautiful view of an island volcano visible from the vantage point of a ridge.
ReplyDeleteThe architect-designer of the vacation house is the very talented Budji Layug, a UST alumnus. Here's more about him - http://budjiroyal.com/about-budji.php. As you can see, he made brilliant use of the irregular shape of the hillside and came up with a classic.
From what little info I gathered Doc, this house was initially owned by a Tehankee (now it's owned by a corporation). The architecture is one of the more unique designs in all of the Philippines - one that can be considered a classic. The use of white as a dominant color gives the house a hint of Santorini, an island in Greece known for it's blue and white houses built on the island's hillsides.
ReplyDeleteIt can comfortably accommodate about a dozen people or a little more, given the size of most Filipino clans, and you can get a hefty discount on off-season or off-peak days (weekdays). It does initially look expensive, but it gets a little more affordable if you price it on a per head basis.
lol...si mama ba yon natutulog sa background? hehe..
ReplyDeleteHahaha...yes, that's your Mommie dear. I actually was taking a shot of the vegetation. I just noticed the "background" a little later :-)
ReplyDeleteganda ng place and pics. pahingi contact number.
ReplyDeleteYou can visit their website at http://www.chilline.com/tagaytay.html
ReplyDeleteThe place is beautiful but the price quite steep. Sa bahay na lang muna ako. ;-P
ReplyDeletei have seen this house from a friend's posting in facebook. and yes, the price is quite steep nga...but wow! love the sunset pics, Toch!
ReplyDeleteI'd love to watch sunset in your house, Faith. Afterall, with or without the sun, Tagaytay will always be beautiful.
ReplyDeleteAs I've pointed out earlier, if you go there as a group, bumababa ang per head cost.
ReplyDeleteBy the way, MeAnn. These are shots taken during sunrise.
ReplyDeletewow! the house is simply awesome! and the views, spectacular! great shots!
ReplyDeleteThank you! Tagaytay beckons!
