The day I left for college
I've been going to Manila ever since I was a boy in the 60s. I don't remember exactly how many times. In all of these trips, I've always been going with either my mother or father or both. Most of these trips were for the purpose of visiting my elder sister who was then already going to the university, and a few trips were actually for some sight-seeing, e.g. Manila Zoo, Quiapo, etc. I remember we always had to pack as early three or four days before and all of our luggage will be neatly lined along the hallway all zipped-up and ready to go (and not to be touched by anyone, except by my mom, of course). But there is one departure that will forever remain in my memory - the day I left for college. On the day of my departure for college, Conching went through the same meticulous preparation except that this time a few more items were added to the things we're bringing on the trip - a basket full of half-ripe bananas, half a sack of ...
hmm...I think I better not post photos of a certain person (itago natin sya sa letrang B) in sleeping poses...even if may stuffed toy pa yan sa gilid or may halaman..mahirap pala...ehehe...
ReplyDeleteSa pagkaka-intindi ko, in libel cases, a primary element is malice. If the item written or in this case, posted, was deliberately meant to discredit or put the subject individual to ridicule or shame, then it's a strong libel case. Incidentally, there's a very good movie (starring Paul Newman and Sally Field) dealing on this subject - "Absence of Malice."
ReplyDeleteoh, I remember that movie a long time ago.. I didn't see it in theaters though...
ReplyDeleteI don't mind your slanderous, malicious, shame-causing, character assassinating photos of me. : )
ReplyDeletenyahaha!legal terms na ba mga ito?
ReplyDeletecan I use this statement in court as evidence of permission to take and post more photos?
ReplyDeletePeople can be sue-happy. Be careful what you post.
ReplyDeleteesp sa U.S. parang each and anything can be grounds for suing somebody..maski siguro you stepped on an ant in their yard...tch..sometimes feeling ko unreasonable na..takes the fun out of almost everything when you need ot mind everything ...
ReplyDeleteAnd Canada as well. Anything that happens on your property is your responsibility. And all these claims against you will likely be successful in court. Kaya nga dito, kelangan meron kang liability insurance. Otherwise you can lose your home kung may magdemanda sayo.
ReplyDeleteI really find that absurd. As there is caveat emptor or buyers beware, there should be visitors beware. I read that even a house thief (obviously uninvited and unwelcomed in one's house) was able to successfully sue the homeowner because he slipped in the house or something.
ReplyDeleteThat is true, unfortunately. Another example: if you have a trampoline in your backyard and your neighbor's kid sneaks in, uninvited, jumps on your trampoline, slips and breaks a bone, his dad can sue you and most likely will be successful. That's our sue-happy society at work.
ReplyDeleteHa ha ha... kapalmuks:-)
ReplyDeleteEven worse is when you use your gun and fire a shot at the thief and hit him, you are the one who goes to jail, not the thief for illegal use of firearm, even though you have a license for that. Unless, the thief took the hostile approach first and you hit back, then it is self-defense.
