All Souls Day 2022


 ALL SOULS DAY 2022

On October 23, 2022, a full-week ahead of the traditional visit to the graves of dead relatives, I visited my parents' resting place at the Eternal Garden Memorial Park in Caloocan City. With me were my sister and her husband, my wife and my son. We took the usual posterity shot but this time I had the idea to take it from the viewpoint of my parents' resting place. I placed the phone camera down to their tombstone and set it on a timer-triggered selfie-photo.

This was the photo. 

This is the first time I had made a photograph at the cemetery which makes it appear that the one in the grave was the one taking the photo. Some would say that their spirit is there "floating around" which implies that they are looking down at us from an elevated point. But I thought, maybe their soul is really lying there and this is how they see us. Who knows if that is not the case really? 

Anyway, I believe my parents are happy, if not surprised, to see us this early. And in my mind/imagination, it was either my mother or father who volunteered to take the souvenir photo and I was imagining them smiling at us while taking the photo.

Ninja Assassin

Rating: ★★ Category: Movies Genre: Action & Adventure I've been watching out for this movie since I first saw it as a trailer for one of the movies I saw recently. I just thought that my longing for a great martial arts movie minus the spectacular location shootings and the cast of thousands that usually attend many of the recent films in this genre, e.g. Hero, and House of Dagger of Jet Lee, and without the zany humor that are the mainstay of Jackie Chan movies, would be a little refreshing if not a little nostalgic for the Kung Fu films of the great Bruce Lee. I am happy to note that indeed there were no spectacular scenery shots, and the story and action very serious indeed. Of course, how else can a portrait of an assassin be presented but seriously. Three-Days-Two-Nights at Pearl Farm. The Davao Pearl Farm is a sea side beach front resort located in an island called Samal which is just about 45-minutes motorised boat ride from Davao City. See http://www.pearlfarmbeachresort-davao.com/ppc/ . One can take a plane from Manila to Davao City and take a cab directly to the Pearl Farm jump-off point and main front office. It could take anywhere from 30 to 45 minutes (depending on the time of day and traffic situation) from the airport towards the direction of the Waterfront Hotel (formerly the Insular Hotel) to the marina where Pearl Farm Resort exclusive boats/ferries carry visitors across to Samal island with four trips (8AM, 1.30PM, 4PM and 6PM).
