Sunrise in Bantayan

Sunrise. Although I love sunsets, for me sunrise is the best time of the day. Yes, even better than Sunset.

Sunrise is an affirmation of life. The smell of the fresh morning air is proof positive that yes, we are alive. The sea breeze is more gentle, too. And the quiet deserted beach with its sand a little bit moist from last evening's condensation beckons small living creatures to wallow in the mist of morning.

Capturing sunrise is also a challenge to me, the hopeless nocturnal creature that I am. It is thus no ordinary feat for me to be able summon my lazy sleepy bones very early in the morning and shoot the photos below.

Perhaps its just be me, but I think I just got a bit lucky to chance upon these scenes below. I post them here mostly for my own self-indulgence. But if you guys find pleasure in them as well, then so be it and be it so. Besides, such beauty is too much for one person to keep. It must be shared.

Like Death, Beauty comes to us in silence...
Breaking of dawn

The tired souls of the night will rest their weary feet...
Early start

The Sun finds us and comforts us with a warm hug..
Contemplation

...to cast the cold of night away...
Morning Yoga

Every creature awakens on the gentle touch of the Sun's rays...
Dog silhouette

Like the shining love of a father for a daughter
Father and daughter w/dog

Casting a long shadow on the sand...
Watching the world go by

Peaceful and quiet morning...
Fresh mornings

Bathed in the golden glow of dawn...
Golden sand

A morning walk...
Morning walk

Life -giving light...
Shade

A night prowler catches the Sun instead.
I see you...

I felt a little bit sorry that I had to leave the moon quite early by itself last night. It seems it felt so alone as I did. But I knew that it's loyal planetary escort was there with her all the way, till the break of dawn. And I knew that the Sun was going to reward me with the sight of the beautiful Dawn that he sends moments before he appears on the horizon.

And as always and every time in the past, the view exceeded all my expectations.

Friends, here's my Sunrise in Bantayan Island.

  4. Thanks DocPhil. I'm glad you liked it and I'm happy to have shared it with you.

  5. Hi Nons. Thanks for the kind words. I'll think about your "magazine" suggestion. But I have my feet on the ground and I know I only have a puny point -and-shoot compact camera, which is no match to the more professional DSLRs. As I've already mentioned, for the most part, I do take these photos for self-indulgence.

You have to make Bantayan a must-see when you come and visit someday. And make it soon because some of these places are really "endangered." When I visited the place a few days ago, there were already tell-tale signs that the place is slowly but surely being commercialized. I saw those same signs in Boracay beach just a few years before it became what it is now - "a mall with a beach."

  6. Yes, Cat. Some beauties are really just around the corner (as I mentioned in my other post), or maybe just under a rock, or beneath a tree.

Yes, for me Bantayan was not just a trip or a destination. It was more of an experience that will linger on in my memory for a long long time. These photos will help me reminisce it someday in the future.

I don't think I've met Frankie. But since you say, "she's a blast of fun," I'd be happy to be obliterated by her (if and when we meet).

  7. Thanks Lou. I actually took these photos on our third morning in the island. The first two were quite frustrating as the stingy overcast skies forbade me from catching the splendor of sunrise.

I'm glad you liked the words as well. But silence, too, is poetry.

  8. Yes, she was obviously hungry as she kept circling around my leg under the table as we had our breakfast. Her night hunt must've been unproductive (or Bantayan may have already ran out of rats).

  9. she is the one where we stayed at sa beachhouse nila (remember my Bantayan post before)...small world talaga that we met up after all these years when mas kilala ko yung younger sister nya who was also a Theresian and don din nag college sa CIT.

sometimes magkwentuhan nga about the sisters Frankie and Joey of Mary Rose (yung youngest sister)...tapos after all these years don ko lang sya na meet...hahaha...

'Kay is so funny recounting her adventures in the political world of Bantayan with her husband and group of friends...maybe next time if makabalik kayo Cebu and sa Bantayan magsama tayo nina Mommy Loy and the other Kayus (wish ko)

  10. I'll put that on my bucket list.

By the way, is Frankie in Multiply?

  11. Hi Nons. Just wanted to note that the camera I used (again) here is none other than my four-year old trusty little Canon Ixy 8mpx point-and-shoot compact camera. So, there's much to be desired in terms of quality. But I'm not complaining. I don't have (can't afford) those pro-looking digital SLR cameras. But I love my little camera. It's lightweight and it fits snugly in the pocket of my pants.

  12. Beautiful pictures! Beautiful words!

I love sunrises too, especially at the beach - the nice mixture of warmth from the color of the sky and the soft fresh breeze of the ocean.

  14. Your silhouette photos are great, Chito! Gandaaaaa!

  15. Yes, Frankie's in Multiply. Cat met her in one of our dinners here in the house and then when we went to Bantayan for the Holy Week processions, we brought Cat along. So she met Frankie in Bantayan and stayed in her house with us.

Frankie is called Kikay by her close friends so in Multiply she';s Kaidespi. Three girls Cat, Dette and Frankie consider themselves our adopted dafters and Kai says she's the eldest dafter.

  16. Thanks for the appreciation. Words from friends I've met are more than just complements. But words from those I've just virtually met are the most rewarding of all. Again, thank you for visiting and dropping a line.

  17. Thanks Mar. Sunrise on the beach on a fine day is more than anyone can ask for out of the sweet life. Hope you see more beautiful sunrises, too.

  18. Thanks Faith/Gary. Silhouette is my excuse/solution for not having a low-light feature in my camera, hehehe...

    You must byahetulogkain here sometime.

  19. Yup, I think I've read her Cebuano-speak exchanges with Cat (and with you as well).

  20. Yes, indeed, magic happens. But we must be quick to catch it. And much like in a magic act, this beauty can disappear in a wink.
