The Boys of '69 - Medical Mission 2011
Mission accomplished! For the 8th consecutive year, a group of once-upon-a-time boys, now nearing their "senior citizenship" status, have continued to pursue their youthful ideals as impressed on them by their Jesuit mentors - to be men for others.
What started as an "act of random kindness" became an annual opportunity for the boys to give a part of their time and resources to the community they love most particularly their less fortunate kababayans.
In two years time, in 2013, God willing, it will be a decade of doing "a good thing." Hoping that the boys will be able to continue doing it for another decade or more.
Below are photos of the the medical mission staged by the boys of Ateneo de Naga High School Batch 1969 (supported by their former HS sweethearts from the exclusive girls school, the Colegio de Sta. Isabel, HS'69) held in the town of Milaor in the Province of Camarines Sur. NOTE: ALL PHOTOS COMPLEMENTS OF SPECIAL FRIENDS OF THE BOYS NAMELY: CAT HERRERA AND CHE AVENGOZA. Che and Cat along with their friend Leila, were special guests of the Boys of '69 during the medical mission and were there to share their time with them. (Che has a corollary purpose for being there. She was going to held her Lapis, Ballpen at Papel charity event in another Bicol town - the town of Sipocot - her hometown. Photos of this event are posted here - http://ladyairbus.multiply.com/photos/album/366 and here - http://ladyairbus.multiply.com/photos/album/367).
It was a good size crowd although there weren't as much compared to the previous missions held in other towns.
The dental services was the most popular and pretty much in demand. In fact the dentists had to stay for another hour after the end of the event as there were about ten more patients waiting to be served.
This year, a number of private donors came through in addition to the usual, i.e. United Laboratories (UNILAB), and The Philippine International Trade Center (PITC). One such donor that need to be mentioned is a co-multiplier who got connected with the mission through Cat Herrera. He is also a doctor and also does medical missions. We thank our co-multiplier Doc Philip.
At the end of the day, with smiles in their faces and after another satisfying day of extending their helping hands behind them, the Boys of '69, along with their ever supportive female associates, posed for a souvenir shot amid cheers of meeting again next year for another mission. ONWARD TO CANAMAN (next year's target site)!

Below are the photos taken by Che and Cat. I think they took hundreds of photos but for some reason, I am unable to post all of them. In fact, it seems I can't even edit the order/arrangement of the photos.
The Boys of '69 would like to extend their appreciation to Cat and Che for taking all these photos you see below. We can never thank you enough. And we hope to see you again next year (hopefully with a few more of our multiply friends tagging along).
PREMUM REGNUM DEI!
baka may limit sa photos in an album? or baka nagkaproblem ang MP earlier?

ReplyDeleteyour processes are in place na so it was a breeze being there...
Not sure what the cause really is. Will try to edit again a little later.
ReplyDeleteThis patient does not look like she's needing treatment. Bak na kyu-kyutan lang sa doctor, hehehe...
ReplyDeleteThis is one of those I wanted edited out.

ReplyDeleteyeah, its true, my Indian classmates were telling me about it...at pati gatas daw e mahal dito :-)
After seven years, medyo in place na ang procedure. But I really did not expect you to lend a hand. Mabuti nga nag-focus kayo sa photo-documentation. Kasi naiwan ko sa sasakyan yung camera ko.
ReplyDeleteay sayang..akala ko I could play on 69 and 96...
ReplyDeletebatch 81 si Che...ng prep...hahaha
hay naku, ilang beses ka ba magdala ng cam tapos di mo gamitin...
ReplyDeletepara naman may pictures kami...hahaha!
but seriously...maganda sana nga if we were there earlier, para makita pag-set-up, yung at the start talaga..
Ang ginawa ko kasi nga dahil nagpo-problema ako sa uploading earlier, was to upload everything, hoping that I could edit/delete those that are redundant later na lang. Pero medyo hanggang ngayon di ko parin magawa.
ReplyDeleteI know, pero di na ka pani-paniwala yun, hahahaha....
ReplyDeletewala naman ako so far problem (though di ako umaabot kc to more than 100 in a photo album, preferring to chop it up into more manageable parts) in uploading sa MP today...
ReplyDeleteActually, it is usually me who is the one expected to do the photo-documentation. But for some reason, it wasn't at the top of my mind this time. Buti na lang talaga nandun kayo. But I would have taken photos of you had I remembered taking my camera from my bag.
ReplyDeleteI'll try editing again later.

ReplyDeleteWow, what a turnout! I'm sure your group's effort is very much appreciated.
ReplyDeleteWhat a way to reconnect with your old friends, and do this wonderful project at the same time!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations to your group for a job well done!
ReplyDeleteMore power to you!
Hi Angie. Most, if not all, of the dental patients were there for a tooth extraction.
ReplyDeleteThis year we were unable to get our friends from ARUGAAN, an NGO which advocates breast feeding. We had them last year. They provided food for the babies and a lecture to mothers and would-be mothers particularly on the importance of breast-feeding and how to do it properly.
ReplyDeleteI think this was just before we took a lunch break.
ReplyDeleteThis is just half of the total bunch of guys (former HS buddies) who came to help. These are the usual/regular attendees.
ReplyDeleteJust some on-site coordination work. I think I was calling to check if the lunch for the medical team was ready. The town's vice-mayor is our HS batchmate and he and the mayor himself provided the lunch.
ReplyDeleteThe guy in striped red is the town Mayor (Mr. Flores) and the guys next to him (and the guy with white hair) is our HS batchmate and current vice-mayor, Andre Hidalgo. This is not the entire medical team since the volunteer doctors were yet busy with their work.
ReplyDeleteHehehehe...enjoy na enjoy yan si Che.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Angie.
ReplyDeleteMedyo mainit dun sa venue kaya I think nagpupunas lang siya ng pawis :-)
ReplyDeleteYnag si Cat, she's truly a funny girl. Kuna anu-ano pinaggaga-gawa niyan :-)
ReplyDeletePhoto-op lang yan :-).
ReplyDeleteActually, medyo malungkot nga ng konti kasi patapos na and we still wanted to go on. Kaya lang the venue had another event scheduled kaya we had to close shop around 3PM. Usually kasi hanggang mga 4 or 5PM kami. The town's Halloween Party for the kids was scheduled in the afternoon kaya we had to end earlier than usual.
Hi Mar. The turn-out was okay but it was not as we expected. We were hoping to get more than a thousand beneficiaries but only about 7 to 8 hundred were there. I think it was the rain earlier in the day that may have caused the attendance to drop.
ReplyDeleteWe've been doing this for the last seven years and it's become sort of an annula reunion for former HS buddies.
ReplyDeleteA day after each medical-mission, our group also sponsors the Sunday mass which is held in the chapel of our former school.
Hi Docphilip. I cannot thank you enough for your donations. Maybe next time you can join us. Thanks again.
ReplyDeletebaka nag tanong ako if may viagra ba din sama sa pinamimigay nila *grin*
ReplyDeletekidding!
hehe..sama rin ako sana sa mag pose if may magbubunot eh..pero baka matakot ang patient...
ReplyDeleteI thank you Chito at nasama ako sa special mention dito..haha..pero I think these are all Che's pics yata...sabagay on some group pics same lang din kami ng kuha...(yung sa lunch e eko yon...mwahaha)
ReplyDeleteI'll be posting the lunch photos separately.
ReplyDeletehmm..demanding bat...walang captions? mwahaha!
ReplyDeleteCan't see the photos in edit mode so I also can't make/edit captions. Don't really know what went wrong.
ReplyDeletedid you send a message to MP support?
ReplyDeleteAll I can say is "GREAT JOB< Boys of 69!" I will look at all the pictures later.
