Igang Sunset




We arrived in Virac as the sun was rising and it was drizzling with a bit of wind. As a matter of fact, our plane had to fly in circle twice because of the wind before we were able to finally land. A 20-plus minutes trip by van brought us to Igang. It was no longer drizzling but it was still overcast. Hoping to see a nice sunset on the sea, I asked the beach guard if the rising or setting sun is visible from the beach area. I was told that both are actually not directly visible to viewers from the beach, i.e. sunrise was obscured by the rock on the far left end of the beach while the sun sets down beyond the hills behind the resort. He, however, suggested that we try going up the Zipline tower because there's a bit of a view of the setting sun there. I was quite disappointed upon hearing this. Nevertheless, I and Cecill climbed up the 40-foot Zipline tower (while struggling with our acrophobia) at around 5:30 PM to see what the view really was.

Below is what we saw. It was not your usual/expected sunset over the sea horizon but I thought it was a great view nonetheless.

    while I may like sunrise and dawn for the pink hues, gusto ko rin sunset dahil sa orangey color..at parang mas firey nga sya...

    Mas mahirap hulihin yung sunrise (because it requires me to rise early in the morning). But when we were leaving for Manila, we had to wake up early for the airport shuttle. I caught a few shots of sunrise. I-po-post ko na lang as photos in my next album.

    Hi Joey. No, no green flash. The sun slid behind some hills so it was not possible to see it actually disappear in the horizon where I understand such green flash may be seen.

    Hi Joey. Thanks. No, I did not catch the green flash. The sun slid behind some hills and I did not see it set on the horizon where I understand is when one may be able to catch it. Hoping though that one day I'll be lucky enough to see it and luckier still to capture it with a camera.

Personal Sa Akin Ang Bagyo (I Take Typhoons Personally)

This is an image of typhoon tracks from 1980 to 2005 or a period of 25 years (photo from wikimedia). NOTE: Please click on the image to view large format (available only for 30 days and counting...) . If you are familiar with the southeast asian geography, you probably know that right in the densest part of the storm tracks is where the Philippine archipelago is (indistinguishable and literally obliterated from view due to the blue lines that mark the tracts of possibly hundreds of typhoons during the two and a half decade time-frame). And if you're familiar as well with Philippine geography, you'll probably know that right smack in the middle of that storm corridor is the Bicol Region and as such, it is probably the most typhoon-battered/ravaged region in the entire Philippine archipelago.
