Forget Paris
Rating: | ★★★★★ |

Genre: | Romantic Comedy |
The movie is top-billed by Billy Crystal as Mickey Gordon, an NBA Referee, and Debra Winger as Ellen Andrews described as "an independent working woman." The two met in Charles de Gaulle airport in Paris brought together by chance in a hilarious mix-up about a missing casket. Then Paris worked it's romantic magic on the couple and they fell in love. But unlike conventional love stories, Ellen and Mickey did not really live happily ever after...from time to time...or should I say sometimes... I like the way the story unfolds, i.e. flashbacks as visual aid to the narratives being told by friends in a dinner.
The comic Billy Crystal is just the right person, I think, for the brilliant, witty, and at times humorous dialogue, made all the more entertaining by the individual repartees from the other members of the cast, e.g. Joe Mategna of Baby's Day Out. And Debra Winger is just sweet.
This movie is a feel-good movie but in a helter-skelter kind of way. But the romance is first class.
So to all you romantics out there, forget Paris! Just catch it on HBO or drop by your nearest DVD rental shop. You'll fall in love (again). Guaranteed.

ReplyDeleteGawd, Ella Fitzgerald and Louie Armstrong! Thank you for this song , Chito. They don't make love songs like this anymore. . .
ReplyDeleteI have a DVD of this because I want to be able to watch it at whim...I love everything about it!
ReplyDeleteBilly Crystal was sooooooooo funny, his lines are so witty, the pet shop scene with Debra Winger and the bird is just hilarious!
Not to mention the antsy-lovable waiter at the restaurant, and...
Oh God , I will never stop, hahahaha
Thanks Toch!
Forgot to rate it! :-)
ReplyDeleteMay nagbebenta pa ba nito? How did this get away from my sphere, huh?
ReplyDeleteGuess what, Tita Loy?! I can make you a copy, pero let's watch it together!!!!! How? this very weekend, I hope you are in Cebu - because Glenn and I are coming!
ReplyDeleteWhy? It's one of those spur-of-the-moment, wala lang decisions!
Yehey!!!!!!
Happy Valentine's Day in Cebu! Don't pack anything. Leave the kids at home. Be lovers for a day (or two)! Forget about work! Cherish the moment caused by the spur!
ReplyDeleteForget Paris. Cebu is here. The new romantic get-away (at least for a day)!
*But don't forget the siskwate*
Thats the plan, hehehe :-)
ReplyDeleteThanks Toch!
yan naman pala! kaya naman pala at walang classes :-)
ReplyDeleteaside from the sikwate, marami pang wag kalimutan...
ReplyDeleteCaaaaaaat! Are you still in Cebu this weekend? Can we meet up?
ReplyDeleteThanks for the "second the motion," Joey. Happy Valentine's Day to you and Myra.
ReplyDeleteYes Cat, why not. Ako din, tingin ko mas romantic and buwan ng Abril kesa Pebrero (kung dito sa atin sa Pinas). Kasi yan ang buwan when the fiesta season starts. And many a romance starts in a chance meeting in the fiesta hall dances.
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome Lou. They are two of my favorite jazz artists.
ReplyDeleteAnd you're right. Love songs of long ago really evoke romance.
Please don't Choie. Go ahead and wallow in romance.
